The first round of Premier League finals delivered on all fronts with four big results on Sunday shaping who leads the race to this year’s Grand Finals.

In the women’s Elimination Final, Suburban Lions made it through to the next round in a nail-biting shootout victory over Victoria Park.

The red-hot clash finished at 0-0 after full time, with the Lions prevailing 2-1 in the shootouts through goal scorers Alice Arnott and Megan McCaffrey and an outstanding performance by their goalkeeper Caitlin Cooper, eliminating Victoria Park from finals contention.

University of Western Australia Hockey Club have booked their spot in this year’s women’s Premier League Grand Final, taking down minor premiers Hale in a scintillating 3-0 win.

Hale will now meet with Suburban Lions in the women’s Preliminary Final on Sunday 10 September at 4pm at PHS in a do-or-die clash.

"I am incredibly proud of this ladies squad. We have played some exceptional hockey throughout the league season, and to witness us playing for a place in the Grand Final since 2018 shows the perseverance, patience and hard work that all our players have put in over many years to return to this pinnacle point in the women's competition against the premier league's leading skilled teams. The excitement it has brought to our junior club players & members is fantastic, and our Ladies Premier players are creating a legacy for our club's future growth & development,” expressed Head Coach Lindsey Wright.
