Masters/ Metro

Masters and Metropolitan teams

Suburban Lions has a number of teams in Hockey WA masters and metropolitan divisions for experienced players looking for a social, yet competitive game. Our masters and metropolitan teams are for busy professionals and parents still wanting to play hockey but need firm arrangements on when games will be held.

Men’s masters and women’s metropolitan grades

The men’s masters and women’s metropolitan grades are played Saturday afternoon on grass fields across Perth. Home ground for our grass teams is Tregonning and Melvista Ovals located in Nedlands. Most grades will have fifty per cent of their games at home and the rest away.

Games are 4 x 17- minute quarters with 2-minute quarter time breaks and a 5-minute half time which makes the whole game approximately 80 minutes. On Saturday afternoon games can commence from 12.30 and run through until 5 pm. The most common timeslots are 2.00 pm and 3.30 pm.

Teams enjoy a social catch up with drinks after the game at the clubhouse.

Most of our social teams enjoy playing their game each week without a regular training session. These teams simply turn up for games.  Experienced member/s of the team take on the team management and on field coaching roles. Some teams choose to train to improve their fitness on a week night when the majority of players can attend.

All players are welcome to join preseason training conducted by the club. All players are advised when this commences through the facebook page.

Registration & Fees

Further details on the registration fees for grass players can be found on our registration page. Each week our grass teams need to supply an umpire where each player contributes towards the cost of the umpire. This is approximately $50-70 over the season per player.

Women’s midweek masters

Suburban Lions has two women’s master’s teams playing on turf in a midweek competition conducted on Monday and Wednesday nights.  Games are played at turf venues across Perth, with UWA turf as our home ground.

Games are 4 x 17 minute quarters with 2-minute quarter time breaks and a 5-minute half time which makes the whole game approximately 80 minutes. The games are generally held from 7 pm to 10.30 pm with the latest timeslot for a game to commence at 9 pm.

Experienced member/s of the team take on the team management and on field coaching roles.

Training for Masters players keen to improve their turf game is available through private providers. All players are welcome to join preseason training conducted by the club. All players are advised when this commences through the facebook page.

Teams enjoy a social catch up with drinks after the game at the clubhouse.

A men’s midweek master’s competition is also conducted. Suburban Lions currently isn’t fielding a team for this competition.

Registration & Fees

Further details on registration fees for turf teams can be found on our registration page.  For turf players there is a weekly cost for turf hire and umpires that each player contributes to. This varies between $10-15 per week. Currently these teams turn up for games.
